The Regina Public School Division assumes a major role in the provision of instructors, facilities, music and certain equipment.

Parents’ Association (SWAMP) 

OBJECTIVE
To support the Sheldon Williams Area Music Program and directors by providing volunteers to organize and support events, manage uniform sizing and procurement, chaperone events, assist with school – home communications. assist with organizing annual music tour, co-ordinate fundraising efforts initiated by parents and students.

Music Department Goals
  • To create a musical and artistic experience of high quality that will enhance the lives of band/choir members and listeners
  • To encourage positive work habits and attitudes towards the group as a whole and toward individual member
  • To increase the technical skill and musicianship of each band/choir member
  • To experience the beauty and joy which results from giving one’s best to achieve an extraordinary musical experience

MEMBERSHIP

Every parent/guardian who has a student in the SWC music program is considered to be a member of  Sheldon Williams Area Music Parents (SWAMP), a registered non-profit organization.  It is our objective to support the music program, its directors, and to enrich our students' musical experiences by providing volunteer assistance.

EXECUTIVE
Positions on the Board include President, Vice- President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Directors at Large, the Music Program Directors, the Past-President and a school Board Liaison. 
Participating on the Board is a great way to meet other parents and work to support the music programs at Sheldon.

RESPONSIBILITIES 
Teachers 
Provide well-organized, musically challenging, and enriching instruction to students. Students Attend all rehearsals and performances. Band and Choir are performance-based subjects. Regular, punctual attendance is essential. Students must exhibit respect for their instrument, other band members’ instruments, the Music Directors, and the importance of rehearsals.
Parent/Guardians 

Take an active interest in the progress of their student(s). This includes helping to establish a regular practice routine; listening to student’s at home practice; providing a quality instrument in good repair. (Instruments in poor condition or of poor quality are a serious detriment to a young musician’s development and may cause a loss of interest.) and supporting the activities of SWAMP.

FUNDRAISING

Every effort is made to keep trip costs down. If financial concerns are an issue, please speak with a Music Program Director. SWAMP welcomes fundraising efforts by parents that assist students who want to raise funds for the annual music trip.
